Karina Smirnoff and Sam Roberts Featured On RockStar Magazine Debut Cover

RockStar Magazine Feb.-Apr. 2012Canada’s music and entertainment website, RockStar Weekly, is excited to release the debut issue of RockStar Magazine, Canada’s only music and entertainment lifestyle magazine. Featuring a dual-cover with both front and back images, the magazine features Dancing With The Stars Season 13 winning dance coach Karina Smirnoff, while the flipside rocks with Canadian singer/songwriter Sam Roberts. The 44-page debut issue hits digital devices via MagCloud today, as well as on a collectible Mini-CD through RockStar Weekly (www.rockstarweekly.com) for $5.95 Canadian.

Smirnoff’s stunning shots were photographed by renown fashion and celebrity photographer Volker Fleck, with hair by Etienne Ortega, makeup from Rokael Lizama and wardrobe supplied by Steven Galindo. In the story she reveals that Dancing With The Stars was so stressful on her body this year that she sometimes found it necessary to get cortisone shots to keep going on with the show.

“I tried to be careful with my muscles and joints, but this season was really strenuous on the body,” she told RockStar. “In the end, though, the pros most definitely outweigh the cons, and participating in Dancing with the Stars was all worth it”.

Also featured in the issue are Canadian rock n’ roll DJ and VJ Terry David Mulligan, Vancouver fashion designer Brittany Wacher, The Joy Formidable and new punk rock/pop diva Porcelain Black, who was recently voted to the top of the RockStar Weekly list of the Top 12 RockStars To Watch In 2012.

RockStar Magazine - Feb.-Apr. 2012“It takes character, talent and some gumption to be a rock star, especially when you haven’t even released your first album,” says RockStar publisher Dan Savoie. “We were looking for a new performer who wants to take things to the next level. We think Porcelain Black will do that this year when her album gets released.”

RockStar Magazine’s debut issue is a digital only release, with all subsequent bi-monthly issues released in print and available through most magazine outlets in Canada. Subscriptions are available in digital, print and Mini-CD formats.

“We’re excited to release the first issue of RockStar,” says Savoie. “We have a plan to take the magazine to the masses and make it a fixture in Canadian pop culture. Whether it’s music, movies, television or anyone with a good story to tell, it’s time for Canada to showcase its amazing RockStars.”

The magazine will feature a self-imposed minimum of 50% Canadian content limit and there will always be a Canuck featured on at least one of the two covers.

RockStar Weekly is Canada’s only entertainment outlet with a website, two magazines, a syndicated radio show and a soon-to-be launched Internet radio network. With more than one million visitors per year and an Alexa ranking that puts it in the Top 1% of all websites in the world, RockStar Weekly is Canada’s music and entertainment website.
