Trevor Strand Says The Black Dahlia Murder Changed Songwriting Style For Deflorate |
|
Interview by Avril Savoie
Trevor Strand, lead singer of The Black Dahlia Murder, can't wait to tour Canada once again. He says "Canada has a good metal scene and a good sense of metal history. I feel we haven't done enough for them and it's exciting to be touring there again." Trevor goes into details about the new album Deflorate, which is available in stores now. He also discusses how the band has improved upon it's songwriting now that Ryan Williams (bass) and Ryan Knight (guitar) have also contributed to the entire writing process. The band wrote the songs for Deflorate as individual singles and not filler tracks, he revealed - everything on the album was meant to be heard and not put on a shelf. Catch the entire interview below and be sure to check the band out on one of the upcoming Canadian Tour Dates: September 23 - Montreal, QC
You have the release of the new album and the start of a tour that’s taking you through until February. You must be pumped!
The songwriting seems to have improved on the new CD, was there a different approach to the songs this time? You have a good production team that put the album together. The drum sound seems a little more real and full on this album than most other death metal albums. Is there something you are doing different than everyone else? What’s your favorite moment on the new CD? Who’s idea was it for the album cover? Do you do the drawing yourself? There seems to be a good dose of evil on the new CD as well. Is that a theme for you? Speaking of themes of evil, what was the decision to name the band after such an event in the first place? There have been some lineup changes throughout the history of the band? How does this lineup compare? Traveling across Canada in the middle of the winter! Is Canada an important market for you? Speaking of touring, what can we expect different on the new tour? What are your thoughts on the world. Is it doom and gloom or is there hope?
