| Ron Keel - 25 Years And Still Having The Right To Rock |
|
Interview by Avril Savoie
Exclusive to Rockstar Weekly ![]() ![]() I was able to talk to Ron Keel from 80s metal band Keel recently and discussed how his passion for music has kept him going for the last 25 years. We got to look back at what made Keel different than the other 80's rock bands and how the song The Right to Rock is probably more important today than it was when it was released. Keel is re-recording The Right to Rock and might be releasing it as a bonus track on their 25th Anniversary Reunion album Steets of Rock and Roll or on a video game soundtrack. Ron also revealed that he is writing his autobiography, which will also document the Keel Reunion Tour. He expects it to be completed and released in conjunction with the 25th Anniversary Reunion album Steets of Rock and Roll . Find out more of what's happening with Keel, including a very interesting road story that involves fellow 80s rockers Bon Jovi. Your recording your new album, How long will you be in the studio for? It’s great that you have such passion for your music and for the band, can you tell me a bit about that. 25 years. Congratulations are in order, what a great milestone. It has been 20 years since you’ve actually been together though. What prompted the comeback after all that time? Kenny was the only one not returning. Did it just not work out? Things must be serious, you have a bunch of sponsors on your website. What was it like to hit the stage again earlier this year? Was there ever a temptation to put a different version of Keel together at any point before the reunion? Let’s go back to the beginning. What did Keel bring to music that might have been different from everyone else? Everything seemed to move rather quickly back then. Big tours, 2 million albums sold. Is some of it a blur? What are you most proud of? You guys worked closely with Gene Simmons. What do you recall from that? Does Gene know about the reunion? The Right to Rock was such an important track when it came out. Does it still mean as much to people today? Before we end the interview, how about a great road story from the 80s.
