Stereos Turn It Up

If Stereos lead guitarist Miles Holmwood wasn't in a cool rockin' band, he'd want to play football. The CFL fan had a chance to experience part of his dream when his band recently warmed up the crowd at the 97th Grey Cup in Calgary, Alberta on November 29. Since they couldn't cheer on their favourite Edmonton Eskimos, they cheered for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who lost the game in a disappointing one pointer to the Montreal Alouettes.

After appearing on the MuchMusic show disBand, Stereos now makes Toronto their home and they have a major label record deal with a couple Top 10 hits (Summer Girl and Throw Ya Hands Up) and a new video for Turn It Up. The band is also scheduled as part of a giant cross Canada tour next year with Hedley, Faber Drive and Boys Like Girls.

Holmwood took some time before the Stereos Vancouver concert to talk football, music and what it was like to be on MuchMusic disBand.

How hard was it to come up with not only 1 name but you had to come up with 3 different names?

Did it take a while to come up with the names?

How did you guys end up on disBand on MuchMusic?

How do you think disBand differs from shows like American Idol?

So what was it like with Gene Simmons?

Was there a defining moment when you knew there’d be a record deal somewhere for the band?

What was your first thought after Universal Records said “We want to sign you”?

I saw you guys perform at the Grey Cup game. Congrats on the gig. What was that like?

I seen you were wearing Saskatchewan Rough Rider shirts, Are you guys actually Rider fans?

What did you think of the Game, did you see it at all?

Summer Girl and Throw Ya Hands Up have done really well. You must be pleased.

When is the video for “Turn it Up” going to be available for everyone to see?

Do you live in Toronto now or do you still live in Edmonton?

What inspired you to invite a rapper on Throw Ya Hands Up?

Who are your inspirations?

Is there anything you would have done differently on your debut album if you could go back and re-do it?

What is your absolute favourite song?

You’re on tour across Canada now, how is it going so far?

It says on your website that your most forgettable gig was in Vancouver. What happened?

I hope you show tonight goes better.

Next year you’re touring with Hedley, Boys Like Girls and Faber Drive. That should be a killer show.

If you could play anywhere in the world where would you play?

Are you planning to go to Japan soon?
