The Agonist's Alissa White-Gluz Wakes Up Your Mind
Alissa White-Gluz is the sexiest screamer in the music business, not only for her stunning looks, but for her ability to take on the big boys with her mighty voice. She can go from a perfect pitch to a threatening growl in seconds, putting most male metal singers to shame - and she's only part of Montreal's greatest secret - The Agonist. The band released it's newest album “Lullabies For The Dormant Mind” earlier this year and toured South America in late summer 09. With a scattering of influence from different styles, The Agonist transform their music into a very unique sound where one minute it’s very melodic and then the next they rock hard and heavy.
“Basically all the songs are defiantly not lullaby material," says White-Gluz of the new album. "They are not soft and coy songs, so they won’t lull anyone to sleep, so maybe they can do the opposite. Maybe the lyrics and the intensity could wake someone up. Wake up your mind. Wake up your thoughts. Open up your mind, open your eyes. So we called them lullabies, but they are for the dormant mind rather than the awake mind."
White-Gluz and The Agonist is not easily ignored. Most definitely one of Canada's greatest undiscovered rock bands, The Agonist is a band that deserves and commands your attention. So wake up and smell what Alissa White-Gluz is cookin' in this interview with RockStar Weekly's Avril Savoie.
