| Adam Lambert Could Cost ABC Television Up To $500,000 |

ABC could be exempt from the risk of an FCC fine because Lambert's performance aired at 11 pm, outside the FCC's usual 6am-10pm time frame prohibiting the broadcast of indecent material. ABC cut the most controversial part of his act, Lambert rubbing the face of a male dancer in his crotch, from the U.S. West Coast telecast that aired later on Sunday.
The Parents Television Council has asked its members to complain to the FCC where they can, as well as ABC, Dick Clark Productions, and advertisers generally, about the American Music Awards broadcast. The group was not happy with the final performance, which they complain included an oral sex simulation that was edited out of the West Coast version. The PTC is encouraging those where the last hour aired at 9-10 p.m. to contact the commission. It was PTC's complaints about Janet Jackson's Super Bowl reveal that helped spur an FCC crackdown on broadcast content.
During the performance Lambert slipped and had pitch and voice problems, but the controversy has taken center stage over the musical performance. Lambert did recognize the sound problems in a Twitter message to Perez Hilton earlier today: "Thank you for the support. It WAS a bit pitchy. Don't know what was goin on with the sound. Same thing always went down on idol" What Lambert lacked in musical proficiency on Sunday night, he made up for in news headlines, currently ranked as the third highest trend of the day at Google Trends. The 2009 AMAs" stand as TV's 3rd-highest-rated awards show this year, behind only the "Oscars" and "Grammys," outperforming CBS' "2009 Emmy Awards" by 31%. Photo from New York Daily News

It's unclear at the moment if charges will be pending, but ABC television could be facing federal fines of up to a half a million dollars from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) because the lewd and racy performance of Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment at the closing of the American Music Awards on Sunday. The FCC fined CBS $550,000 for broadcasting a glimpse of Janet Jackson's breast at the 2004 Super Bowl half-time show, which Jackson blamed on a wardrobe malfunction with co-performer Justin Timberlake.
