Montreal nu metal band Slaves on Dope is back with a vengeance and RockStar Weekly is proud to unleash the first interview with frontman Jason Rockman since their break up, which came shortly after the release of the 2003 masterpiece Metafour.
The band was formed in Montreal in 1993 and in 1999, while living in Los Angeles, the band secured a record deal through Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne's Divine Recordings, releasing the album Inches from the Mainline a year later. The band also toured Ozzfest in 2000 and made an appearance on the SnoCore Tour.
After Divine Recordings lost their distribution deal with EMI's Priority Records, the band was left without a label & returned to Montreal. With the help of producers Jason Slater & Troy Van Leeuwen, a deal was struck with Bieler Bros. Records and their second major album Metafour was released in 2003. The band broke-up a few months later.
With the new album ,Over the Influence, currently being written and recorded in Montreal, the band has found a new lease on life and a new power in their music like they've never had before. Rockman describes it as "if Henry Rollins and Faith No More were in a cage match and Alice In Chains was on the sidelines eating popcorn and watching.”
The new album, which won't be released until 2010, also has a few guest artists such as Alissa White-Gluz, vocalist from The Agonist. And, if you haven't been watching the band's weekly webisodes - where they've taken us behind the scenes of the recording of the album and into their homes and every day lives - you're missing out on the internet's latest sensation. If you don't believe us, check out the webisodes here.
Ladies and Gentlemen, RockStar Weekly proudly gives you the first interview with Slaves on Dope version 2.0:
Good to see you back in the studio. What brought you guys back together?
Is the feeling different now than it was before?
Are there any main changes Slaves on Dope fans will see with version 2.0?
Tell me about the new music?
How did you hook up with Alisa from The Agonist?
She rocks harder than most testosterone driven bands. Did she give make you want to up your game when you recorded with her?
Why the name Over The Influence for the new CD?
When will we see the new CD in stores?
You keep popping up on CTV and you’ve even written for RockStar Weekly. Are you a media slut?
You guys played on Ozzfest and the Sno-Core Tour with Fear Factory and Kittie, but something caught my ears when Slaves appeared as the first track on a Poison tribute CD. What’s the deal with that?
That was kind of a weird project to begin with. Bret Michael's produced it and sang on several tracks. What was working with Bret like?
Are there any other oddities like that kicking around?
You could write a book with all the stories that you have.
You are completely connected with your fans through Facebook and the webisodes. Was that a natural thing to do?
Speaking the webisodes. They are crazy, fun and make you feel like you’re part of the process. You might have missed your calling as a comedian.
Can you do a voice for me?
